  Hi

Are you interested in working within NGO's?

The Career Service have put together a series of modules to make up the
Career Management Certificate, which will run throughout weeks 8, 9 and
10. One of these modules is called 'NGO-ing for IT' and is for people such
as yourselves who may be interested in working with not for profit anc
charity organisations both in the UK and Internationally. Below is an
outline of the module:

NGOing for IT
This NEW module is designed for students who are keen to explore and
maximise their chances of finding
work within NGO's, Not for Profit and Charity organisations both in the
UK and internationally. You will
develop an awareness of the characteristics of these sectors and explore
how others have developed their
careers, by meeting those already employed there. You will discuss the
nature of work in a scholarly way
and develop your academic research skills by undertaking interviews and
web-based research. You'll
develop an action plan designed to help you gain the necessary skills to
market yourself with confidence
when applying for opportunities in the NGO, Not -for Profit and Charitable
sectors.

No matter what year you are in, you can gain from completing these
courses, whilst doing something useful at the end of term. It gives first
year students the opportunity to invest in some early career planning in
time for internships and work experience. Second years benefit by
preparing effectively ready for the graduate recruitment process in the
autumn, and it helps finalists who have put off career planning and have
no idea what they will be doing next year!

The course is offered through Warwick Skills and led by the Careers
Service, and is a new, 30 credit certificate awarded by the University of
Warwick leading to 30 CAT points which appear on your degree transcript.

The modules consist of highly interactive workshops, individual work and
the submission of a portfolio for assessment. Each module is worth 10
credits. Students may either select 30 Units from those listed below in
order to achieve a Career Management Certificate, or combine 1 or more
units with Warwick Skills Units, leading to the Warwick Skills
Certificate.

You can choose from the following modules:

* Career Management Skills
* Lost in Translation
* Understanding your personality type with the Myer-Briggs Indicator
* Making the most of Work Experience
* Creative Careers
* NGOing for IT
* Commercial Awareness
