  LINEUP WEEK 10

I'd like to again thank everyone whose contributions to the society helped
us to triumph and win the honour of being Best Society 2006/7. I am sure
that you're all as thrilled as I am and are proud to be part of the
society.

However, there's always room for change and improvement, and shall be a
big theme this week, with our elections on Thursday and Go Green
evaluation meeting on Monday. Both of these meetings are extremely
important. Please come! NOTE THE SOCIAL ON THURSDAY FOLLOWING THE
ELECTIONS!!!!

If anyone wants to stand for an exec position please let me know a.s.a.p.

THIS WEEK:

1) GO GREEN EVALUATION MEETING: MONDAY 6PM MR2

2) WARWICK CONTROL ARMS: RALLY ON WEDNESDAY

WRITE TO YOUR MP

3) ELECTIONS: THURSDAY: 6PM MR2

4) SOCIAL: THURSDAY AFTER ELECTIONS

THIS WEEK:

1) GO GREEN EVALUATION MEETING: MONDAY 6PM MR2

Owen will be holding a meeting on Monday to discuss how Go Green week
went, how it could be improved etc. Obviously, due to the amount of money
and time invested we need to make it as awesome as possible so it would be
great if as many people as possible who were involved in the week at
whatever level could come along. If you can’t attend but have any
comments then please let Owen know on o.morgan (at) warwick.ac.uk

2) WARWICK CONTROL ARMS: RALLY ON WEDNESDAY

Hi Everyone,

On Weds 12th March, there is going to be a parliamentary debate, followed
by a vote on upgrading trident! This is worrying because:

1. There has been no real public consultation on this and it is being
rushed through hurridly before Blair leaves office

2. It is estimated to cost us around 76 billion - on weapons that are no
longer needed and we are unlikely to ever use.

3. The government have started researching the development of a new
nuclear weapon that can be used in a battlefield scenario (crazy or what?)

4. It will breach international law - we signed the nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty back in the 70s saying we, along with other
nations will begin to decommission our nuclear weapons (South Africa and
many ex-Soviet countries have kept to this)

5. It will only cause proliferation and will not address the real security
issue of today - the environment.

6. The UK is a hypocrite to say that nations like Iran can not develop
their nuclear programmes - and we wonder why they want to????!

Please take action in the following ways:

- There is a template email attached for you to send to both your MP at
home and at Uni, to talk about trident. Please adapt it as you feel
appropriate. To find out who your MP is go to:
http://upmystreet.com/commons/. You can also find their contact details
there. I would recommend attaching the letter as an email to your MP so
that you get a quick response in these circumstances. Please let us know
what responses you do get at e.biermann (at) warwick.ac.uk

- Join us at the rally on the 14th March outside Parliament from 6-8pm
trying to persuade MPs last minute to vote against upgrading trident. Also
join our facebook group:

http://warwick.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2250008743ref=mf

- Go online to http://www.bigtridentdebate.org.uk/ to support the
statement against upgrading trident.

- Some of us are meeting Coventry MPs on the 12th March as part of a
coalition group which is anti-trident. If you have any questions you would
like us to ask our MPs, please let us know, again at
e.biermann (at) warwick.ac.uk!

Thanks everyone and in peace,

Warwick Control Arms

3) ELECTIONS: THURSDAY: 6PM MR2

quoracy then can everyone please try and come, even if they are not
