Hey folks,
Hope you've all had a good week. Since there are so many awesome things
happening for Go Green Week next week, I am going to give that the
privilege of an e-mail in its own right! More info therefore to follow.
So anyway, for now:
1) Fairtrade Festival Meeting: Monday 6pm MR2
2) Pick up a copy of this weekâs âWordâ
3) Control Arms
a. Volunteers needed for WEDNESDAY stall
b. Anti-War/Anti-Trident Protest: London 24/2
4) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FAIRTRADE TASTINGS
E-MAIL ACTION
5) OXFAM: Zambia screwed over by predatory commercial company
6) NEW STATESMAN BLOG
1) FAIRTRADE FESTIVAL MEETING: MONDAY 6PM MR2
Weâre on the final countdown now! Still lots of things to be decided:
fashion shows to be planned, yurts to be constructed etc. Weâre going to
need as much help as possible throughout the week, so it would be great to
see as many of you as possible at Mondayâs meeting.
2) PICK UP A COPY OF THIS WEEKâS âWORDâ
In case you havenât seen it, this weekâs Word has some fantastic
articles and publicity for Go Green Week and Fairtrade Festival. Remember
to pick up a copy (and recycle it afterwards of course⦠or treasure it
eternally!)
3) CONTROL ARMS INFO
Mark is planning to hold a stall outside the library on Wednesday. If
anyone is free to lend a hand, please let him know on
m.a.carrigan (at) warwick.ac.uk
Also, thereâs also an anti-trident and anti-war protest in London on Feb
24th.
Details on http://www.stopwar.org.uk/_Current/24Feb07Demo.htm
Tony Blair took us to war on Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction.
There were none. 655,000 Iraqis, over 3000 US soldiers and 130 British
soldiers have died in that illegal war. Now Blair wants to spend up to 76
billion on new Trident nuclear weapons for a âdefenceâ policy based on
indiscriminate killing of millions.
Stop the War, CND and BMI are calling a national demonstration on 24
February to say no to these insane policies of death and destruction.

4. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FAIRTRADE TASTINGS
- The Coventry Heart of England Co-ops would like to offer fair-trade
tasting stalls
during Fairtrade Fortnight 1-13 March. They are located on Allesley Old Road,
Corporation Street, Earlsdon Street and Remembrance Road. There are no
scheduled
times currently, but if you would like to volunteer, please contact
Rebecca offering
times you would be available at rboke (at) sunion.warwick.ac.uk.
5. E-MAIL ACTION OF THE WEEK
A predatory commercial company seeking to scavenge a staggering $55 million
from Zambia after buying up a 'bad debt' of $3.3 million has been
reluctantly awarded an estimated $15 million by a British court.
That's rich pickings from a desperately poor country, and 'vulture fund'
Donegal International should redeem this shameful episode and not claim even
the reduced amount. Join our email action now to get Donegal to do the right
thing:

Zambia*
6. NEW STATESMAN BLOG
Dear students,
I'm writing to you from the New Statesman. I'm wondering if any of you
would be interested in writing a piece for our Campus Radicals blog. This
would involve writing a 'radical' piece of roughly 600 words on a
political/social matter. This is a great way to get your ideas published
online and read internationally. Please take a look at the following link
to get an idea of the kind of blogs we put up on the site:
http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/campus-radicals
Please submit your contributions to Online Editor Ben Davies:
ben (at) newstatesman.co.uk
Please could you forward this email to anyone who is politically
active/opinionated who may be interested in contributing and do not
hesitate to contact me with any queries.
With many thanks,
Rebecca
