  VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT YPWC, GHANA

Ø Community Development Workers

YPWC is currently recruiting
two to three interns to assist us with the development of our Millennium
Development Goal Clubs. These clubs are being created with the generous support
of the UN Millennium Campaign. These MDG Clubs are intended not only to make
young people aware of the MDGs but to also get them directly involved in
helping Ghana to meet the MDGs targets.

Interns are needed to assist with the following duties:

*Recruitment and selection of youth leaders to direct clubs within specific
schools
*Development of
curriculum for MDG clubs
*Assisting youth
leaders to form clubs and organise regular meetings and activities
*Assistance with MDG club activity days (scheduling, running sessions,
materials preparation,
*Proposal
writing/grant seeking activities related to funding of long-term MDG club
activities

The following qualifications and/or skills are required for the position of
Youth Community Development Worker:

*Some post-secondary education is required
*Experience
working cross-culturally
*Excellent
communication skills
*Knowledge of
the Millennium Development Goals
*Experience
working with youths aged between 9-17 years
*Patience and
flexibility will be a valuable asset

All interns are expected to make a contribution of $900 for an eight-week
internship. This contribution will cover the following:

*Airport pickup
*Airport
drop-off
*Three-meals
daily
*Accommodation
in a private room at a comfortable home-stay throughout your internship
*24/7 In-country
support from trained resource personnel
*A comprehensive
introduction package emailed prior to your arrival in Ghana High Commission
*Assistance with
visa applications and extensions as needed
*Any academic
paperwork as required

This fee does not cover airfare, insurance or
in-country transportation costs.

Ø Webmaster Internship with
YPWC, Ghana

Interns are
needed to help with the maintenance and improvement of Young People We Care’s
Web site (www.ypwc.org)

Successful
interns will assist with the following duties:

* Regularly updating the website with information on new and continuing projects being implemented by YPWC
* Modifying the site to make it more appealing to casual visitors and easier to navigate.
* Work with YPWC support staff to improve the content on the website This may include approving member contributions, editing for grammar, spelling and/or logical flow of writing. It may also include selection of pictures and design considerations.
* Strengthening and increasing our online community through the engagement of diverse Internet groups as well as the creation of new tools to attract and retain visitors.
* Contacting other online non-profit organisations to enable them to post updates and volunteer opportunities to ypwc.org,
* Overall, work with staff, the ICT team, and contractors on implementing new content and functional areas of the website.

The following
qualifications and/or skills are required for the position of the prospective
applicant:

*Some post-secondary education is required
*Excellent
communication skills
*Knowledge of
the Joomla or any other Content Management Systems
*Patience and
flexibility will be a valuable asset
*Able to commit
to a minimum of eight weeks in-country

brilliant work experience opportunity for an aspiring young Webmaster
interested in building a professional portfolio and gaining experience in Web
Design/Web Development and/or Networking.

Ø Online Community Volunteer


Responsibilities:

* Promptly respond to comments and engage users on YSA social networking communities (Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, and TakingITGlobal)
* Write and/or ghost write on blogs, twitters, etc. on behalf of YPWC

Desired skills/interests include:
* Strong writing skills
* Knowledge of social networking communities
* Above average computer skills
* Knowledge of YPWC key issues including the Millennium Development Goals
* Some experience working cross-culturally is helpful
* Ability to commit to 4 - 7 hours per week for at least four months

Global Youth Service Day international volunteer*

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the largest annual celebration of young volunteers, where millions of young people in countries everywhere carry out thousands of community improvement projects. Young People We Care is currently planning their own event and is looking for 2 – 3 interns to assist with event preparation, promotion, implementation and evaluation.

Responsibilities:
* Assist in coordination of logistics for conference of 120 youth participants. This may include venue selection, venue set-up, volunteer coordination, food/drink purchase and planning, transportation issues and/or schedule creation.
* Create and send promotional reminders and invitations to attendees and guest speakers via email or regular mail.
* Assist in the production of materials for the events that are accessible for all levels of reading ability
* Develop a means of evaluation with the assistance of YPWC staff (i.e. questionnaire, small post-event focus groups or one-on-one interviews with a selected group of participants)
* Implement evaluation tool and compile evaluation results
* Other duties as assigned by Global Youth Service Day Project Manager.


Desired skills/interests include:

* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent organizational skills
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
* Event planning and publication design experience a plus
* Experience working cross-culturally
* Flexibility is a must for this position
