Hello everyone, im here again, and here is my take on this week's issue.
1. Do you think governments are good in using technology to make public information and services available for their citizens?
Well, for me, i believe that government is trying, but it’s not yielding much fruit. They make good use of the media, but as for other forms of technology like mobile phone, mails, websites and all that, they are not utilizing them maximally. I say this because, an ever increasing number of young people, spend more time on the net than off it. Government depends on just giving the people a vague overview of what is going on without bothering to know their thoughts and feelings on the matter. They do this through the mass media and believe it is enough, but as we all know, it is not.
2. How can Governments use technology to have a closer dialogue with young people about public policies and services?
Man is the epicentre of development. Any development for man that is not man-centred, is not development at all. For our governments to serve us better using technology, there must be a set channel of communication. This is the jet age, so, im not talking about the human channels of communication because, more often than not, the human elements impede the free flow of information. Websites should be created to tell the young people what is being done, why and how it will be done.
The fact is, young people may not have the means or time to read newspapers or listen to the news, but they will always be found online. The different ministries should create awareness using websites, generating mailing addresses and also the use of text messages. This will enable the young people to be in the know and also contribute to these policies and enhance public service delivery. Through this, the wishes of the people will be known. These methods applies to ministries, agencies and of course senatorial offices.
