Envoyé: May 23rd, 2008 - 16:00:04

  Dear All,

Thank you very much for involving us. Below are my inputs to Week 3 Questions, for your consideration:

1. Do you think governments are good in using technology to make public information and services available for their citizens?

Answer: In some agencies, technology is used properly as a means of communicating to the public, while some politicians use it to increase their popularity and votes for election.

2. How can governments use technology to have a closer dialogue with young people about public policies and services?

Answer: The government should:

1. Use a form of media that are interactive, where the youth can freely express their views about the policies and services offered by the government without fear.

2. Choose a medium that fits/suits to the taste of the current generation to attract their attention and to easily generate their participation (i.e. youtube, friendster, etc)

3. Show that the generated views were taken into consideration. The government should show that the activity is not just a pro-forma strategy in involving the youth in decision-making.

4. Promote participatory approach to encourage all stakeholders to exercise their right to express their opinion in the process of making decisions concerning their interest.

5. Tap the youth in designing or implementing the program (i.e. youth as script writers of tv programs, youth as moderator of online forums, etc.)
