Sujet: Discussion Questions for Week 3
Envoyé: May 22nd, 2008 - 21:39:06

  Dear all,

Many thanks for all the great contributions to the 2nd week of the
consultation! The summary will be posted on Monday. We heard many different
perspectives on what young people feel about the public services offered in
their countries, and an initial conclusion is that there is much to improve.

Which leads us into the 3rd topic of the consultation - YouGov: how do young
people want to use technology to interact with governments?

The growth of access to and use of technologies such as cell phones and
computers has reduced the distance between policy-makers and citizens and
allows for new and interactive ways for young people to communicate with
politicians and civil servants. For example, in the United Kingdom, Prime
Minister Gordon Brown has created a YouTube channel where citizens can ask
him direct questions, and he, the Prime Minister himself, answers some of
the questions through video messages.

Many governments also use websites actively to provide information about
what policies are in place and what services are offered. It is also
possible to request services (such as student loans) by submitting a request
online. However, these services vary across different countries, and it is
also important to remember that not all young people have access to
internet.

So the questions for the 3rd week are:

1. Do you think governments are good in using technology to make public
information and services available for their citizens?

2. How can governments use technology to have a closer dialogue with young
people about public policies and services?

The consultation will be open until Thursday May 29th, so please let us know
your thoughts.

Best regards,
