That's awesome news, you rock lady!
My understanding though is that the other proposal was not chosen, as they
seem to have only gotten back to successful applicants. I'll confirm with
the planning team.
However, we've got enough on our plate to keep us going for now!
On top of my head:
- Lynn and Baj are finalizing a *MediaWatch blog* with Dominique, which will
be an excellent outreach and promotional activity for us,
and certainly interesting for our members and prospect ones. As Tamara
pointed out though, I also believe that it is important to define what
issues we will be looking at ( i.e. youth-related issues vs. any racism
issues from a youth perspective);
- We also need to work on the launch of the *Website*, which NEEDS to be
accessible from the nyan.ca URL. Dominique, I strongly urge you,
please, to tell us what steps should be taken next in that regard. I know
that you wanted me to call you to figure out how to properly use additional
features that I have not been able to install properly thus far, but I just
didn't have enough time on my hand to follow-up, or called you at the wrong
time. This is actually my plea to the CRRF - or any SC Member willing to
take over - for Web development logistical support. We NEED to have a proper
Website up and running, this is so crucial!
- *Outreach activities*: Tamara, we'll all be supporting you prior and
during the YOUCAN Conference; I'll personally try to make it myself too. We
also need to follow-up on the UBC Event - Usamah, any particular request or
news? - and the CRIAW Forum - Mirlande, can you please brief us on that and
take the lead? There will certainly be other opportunities coming up in the
future and I strongly encourage you to suggest ones and take the lead on
them; as mentioned, during my time at PCH, I will have to distance myself
from speaking and funding engagements. I do however remain yours truly to
help coordinate discussion and planning within the SC. With regards to a
National Conference, I know from developing UNA-Canada's *Sense of Belonging
*project that there is such conference planned in the proposal in early 2008
(Baj, correct me if I'm wrong). I believe it would make more sense to work
with UNA-Canada as opposed to organize a similar one with much less
resources, unless we can partner with the CRRF on another one. In the
meantime, maybe Baj can investigate possibilities and help develop a
partnership with UNA-Canada.
- Review of the *Communications Strategy:* Tamara has developed a fantastic
document that we should ALL look at and provide feedback on; be it just to
thank her and encourage each and everyone one of us to be proactive. Sandy,
you were mentioning that you might run it by the CRRF's Director of
Communications; please continue to keep us apprised of the CRRF's perception
and directions about youth engagement and, more particularly, about NYAN.
- *TIG Group email: *I am taking the executive decision to create one in
order to facilitate the communication process (inclusion, tracking,
archiving, etc.) amongst ourselves and will soon invite each and everyone of
you to join.
- *Funding proposals*: the *CRRF IAR Program* funding proposal is a
PRIORITY! Archana, I suggest that you put everything else on hold for now
and focus solely on this please. I - and hopefully other Members - will be
very happy to help you in this process but we hope to count on you as
the lead and focus person. Sandy has also forwarded another interesting one,
the *Canadian Culture Online* *- Gateway Fund Call for Proposals
2007-08*that we should eventually be looking at to help foster our
on-line outreach
capacity. SC Member(s) interested and available to take the lead in writing
a draft proposal are welcome; note that, for various reasons, both Tamara
and myself cannot directly contribute to its development, but may suggest
informal recommendations. Sandy, can you please look at / explain us the
possibilities for NYAN to receive funding via the CRRF? I don't think it
wise for use to look at NGO status yet. Others, any take on alternative
options to cash funds?
- *Promotional Materials*: we were thinking about updating NYAN's brochure
at some point; any creative mind to take a lead on that? I understand that
the CRRF is willing to print copies. I have attached the last version for
your information.
- *Regional Reps*: something to look at in the future as it seems that
organizations may be interested in identifying NYAN regional
representatives; it would also help coordinate local activities and
outreach. I don't think we should have additional SC members nor
a provincial divide - as it would create too many positions and as we will
always have a strong representation from Ontario - but, rather, a regional
break-down ( i.e. Western, Prairies, Northern, etc).
- *SC Members' participation*: two questions here; 1) what's the minimal
level of participation we can expect from a Steering Committee Member before
he or she is sent a notification of his or her possible removal from the SC?
Note that there is nothing personal here, it's just a matter of efficiency;
we cannot afford to have non-participating members. 2) in light of the
recent departures, how do we want to go about replacing members? Do we want
to send a call for applications or, as I would favour, appoint acting
members until the renewal of ALL Steering Committee Members (for which we
should actually set a date at some point)?
- *Conference call*: now is the time! What are your availabilities for the
coming 2-3 week-ends? Would you prefer to have it during the week instead
(though I recognize it may be difficult to coordinate because of time
differences and work schedules)?
Wishing you all well,
Antoine
PS: Lynn, I was in Calgary actually and knew that I wouldn't be able to
come visit you in Edmonton; sorry! I agree with you though, it would be
really cool to be able to all meet in person one day. In addition to
fostering our organizational development, this is why these funding
proposals are so crucial!
