Dear everyone,

Long time no talk on our little group. I hope that's because everyone's so busy doing amazing a cool stuff?! I'm writing because there is something I think you will all be interested in.

I don't know whether you know, but this weekend, on Sunday, one of the most excellent and important films of this year is going to be released called 'The Age of Stupid'. It's a great film and a great tool for furthering action on climate change and I really encourage you to all go see it and bring friends. It's really important lots of people go to the launch this Sunday in order for it to become even more successful this year and for there to be continuous screenings.

The premiere this Sunday is going to be a unique event with high profile speakers, so watch the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZjsJdokC0s) and check out where the nearest one is near you (http://www.ageofstupid.net/screenings)...

I hope it inspires you to keep doing what you are all doing and that it helps you all with your campaigning! Please forward this on to any other people you think would be interested.

Lots of love,

Emma.

Roll out the green carpet... welcome to THE PEOPLE’S PREMIERE

On Sunday 15th March, a new climate change movie, The Age of Stupid, will premiere in the U.K., and we need your help.

Your average run-of-the-mill movie premiere is a glitzy, exclusive, affair – only the stars are allowed in. But The Age of Stupid is not your average run-of-the-mill film. It was financed by hundreds of different groups and individuals using our cunning crowd-funding model, and in many ways, we all star in it: we’re the self-destructive anti-heroes who are emitting all the greenhouse gases.

So we’re hosting the world’s first INclusive launch – the People’s Premiere.

This eye-wateringly cutting-edge film extravaganza will feature a simultaneous launch at 64 different cinemas across the U.K.. Hopefully, the Guinness Book of Records will soon confirm The Age of Stupid as the largest ever film premiere in history. Screening venues stretch from Plymouth to Inverness, via The Eden Project, and a solar-powered cinema tent pitched in Leicester Square as the jewel in the crown will all be taking part in this unique event.

Described by The Guardian as “captivating … the first successful dramatisation of climate change to reach the big screen”, The Age Of Stupid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (Brassed Off, The Usual Suspects) as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching old footage from 2008 and asking: Why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance? It was made by the team behind McLibel, which reached 25 million viewers and was recently featured in the prestigious series “10 Documentaries Which Changed the World”.

The live event at Leicester Square will be beamed to all 64 participating cinemas - and to news crews - via satellite link (as well as streamed live to the Stupid website), and will include a Q&A with Director Franny Armstrong; stars of the film, Pete Postlethwaite and Piers Guy; climate change expert Mark Lynas; and the Director of Stop Climate Chaos, Ashok Sinha. Each cinema that shows the premiere will also have it’s own local speakers who will be giving talks after the screening.

The climax of the evening will be the official launch of the Not Stupid campaign, when Pete Postlethwaite will start a giant countdown marking the remaining days, hours & minutes until the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December. Copenhagen is being called “the most important meeting in human history” as it is where the successor to the Kyoto Treaty must be finalised. Not Stupid is an epic mission to turn 250 million viewers into climate activists, all focused on making sure the deal agreed at Copenhagen is both just and truly as strong as the science demands. Not Stupid is supported by all the key climate NGOs, including Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, World Development Movement, Transition Towns, oneclimate.net and Stop Climate Chaos.

The premiere is not just inclusive in that everyone is invited, but also because everyone that goes helps to make the film the success it needs to be. The first few days of release are make or break for any movie. The cinema chains look at the number of tickets sold - especially on the opening weekend - and then decide either to book the film in more cinemas, or to dump it in the bin. So if we can pack out the premiere, and then the first days of the release, the film will gather a momentum of its own. And if we can make the UK release a success, distributors in other countries may then decide to take a chance on the film too.

From growing vegetables to going on protest marches, working together positively never fails to bring communities back together. As a way to educate your community about the issues of climate change, what we are doing to our world, and what we can be doing about it, we believe that this film is a very powerful tool.

We very much hope you would like to support these efforts by publicising the premiere in your local cinema to your networks. Here's how:

Go and see it! Take ten friends. Go to the pub after and discuss it.
Go to www.ageofstupid.net/pp_releases_resources for an email that you can send out to your networks, encouraging them all to go and see the film
Download the free poster (www.ageofstupid.net/ngo_resources) and stick it up in your school/ office/ window
Add the widget to your website/ blog (www.ageofstupid.net/widget)
Announce the film at campaign meetings/ school assemblies/ business shindigs
Go here for a 25% reduction on certain cinemas: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/signup/2009/feb/25/the-age-of-stupid

Thank you! Best wishes,
