Subject: Campaign Victory!! Starbucks signs licesning agreement
Dear All
It's official: Starbucks and Ethiopia have finally signed a licensing
agreement securing Ethiopia's ownership over its speciality coffee names
Sidamo, Harar and Yirgacheffe. This comes after about 8 months of
campaigning, more than 96,000 people across the globe calling on Starbucks
- through emails, faxes, phone calls, postcards, and in-store visits - to
honour their committment to Ethiopian farmers. Our campaigners will all be
told and congratulated in the coming days.
Thanks goes to all our campaigners that raise their concern, all the hard
working members of the OI coffee team and especially Charlie for leading
this work in OGB in a brilliant manner! Our campaigners will be tol
Please see Seth Petcher's (OI coffee lead) e-mail below and the attached

Well done everyone for making campaigning work!!

Subject: Starbucks signs licesning agreement - web and e-alert language for OI
distribution
Dear all,
Thanks to everyone for your hard work since October, weâre finally here!
Starbucks and Ethiopia have signed an agreement today regarding
distribution, marketing and licensing that recognizes the importance
and integrity of Ethiopiaâs specialty coffee brands- Harar, Sidamo
and Yirgacheffe.
OI issued a press release Wed 3pm EST â see attached
Joint release from Starbucks and Ethiopia can be read here:
http://www.csrwire.com/News/8962.html.
I am attaching web and e-alert copy that is ready for distribution to the
public now (i.e., we can start sending it out). Youâve got two versions
here â a version created by OGB and a version weâre going to use at OA.
Both are approved so feel free to use what you like. However, itâs very
important that we stick to message given the sensitivity of the agreement,
our interest in not beating up SBUX in hopes of patching up the
relationship and sending a signal to the corporate world that weâre
issue-focused not anti-corporate, and finally the very sensitive
developments in Ethiopia this week around human rights issues.
Youâll see in the OA e-alert language that thereâs mention of a YouTube
video. The video will include a thank you from Ray Offenheiser to the
96,000 who sent letters to SBUX. Happy to report that we seem to have
conquered technical difficulties and will have footage of our famous farmer
filmed in his village last weekend included in the video. Affiliates can
link to that once itâs up â hopefully Thurs afternoon EST â weâll let you
know.
This is a huge achievement for us. I hope that once all of the logistical
details are taken care of you all take a moment to give yourselves a pat on
the back. OK, maybe have a pint, too.
Cheers,
SP
