Is anyone interested in creating a jamily team with me? Everything from Jet Blue to NYU has ny care teams that spend a focused day revitalizing 100+ nyc public schools. Love, Becky p.s. I can never make it to the local gatherng because I have classes on thursday afternoons and work thursday evenings. I need to figure out a way to see y'all another way. Don't think I've forgotten you all :). p.p.s. what's up with the mixed tapes?? :) er cd.

New York Cares is looking for 8,000 volunteers to help paint a brighter future for New York City students. Join us for a day of good, clean fun, revitalizing more than 100 public schools and raising critical funds to support New York Cares. Find out how great it feels to help give thousands of children cleaner, safer and more stimulating environments in which to learn and grow.

“Words cannot articulate our heartfelt gratitude…The students can’t stop sharing with each other how beautiful our school has become.” Dr. Janice Jacob, Principal, PS28, Brooklyn

On New York Cares Day, 350 murals will be painted; bright, new line games will be added to dozens of playgrounds; more than 50 libraries will get organized; hundreds of flowers will be planted; and countless other tasks will be performed. These tasks will directly impact over 80,000 NYC public school students.

In addition to being a great day of service, New York Cares Day is also an important fundraiser for New York Cares. Like a walk-a-thon, we encourage volunteers to ask family, friends and co-workers to pledge donations in honor of the service they perform that day. Last year, New York Cares touched the lives of 250,000 New Yorkers in need—reading with children, serving food to the hungry, distributing coats and holiday gifts to those who would otherwise go without, and so much more. Our work would not be possible without financial support.

I don't believe in charity; I believe in solidarity. Charity is vertical, so it's humiliating. It goes from top to bottom. Solidarity is horizontal. It respects the other and learns from the other. I have a lot to learn from other people.
Eduardo Galeano

If you have come here to help us, you are wasting your time. But if you have come here because you see your liberation as bound up with mine, then, let us work together.”
Lila Watson

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it.... It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.
Erica Jong
