Dear Augusta Thanks for your memo.With the Grace of the Almighty. The Dark Period in our Countrys History is now behind us. The challenge is now on rebuilding , reconstruction and eventual recovery. Poverty, Equity and unequal distribution of the national wealth were idintified as some of the underlying causes of the national tragedy. With over 80,0 percent of the countrys population comprising of the resouce poor small scale rural farmers, the ball is indeed in our court on how to get this population out of the poverty trap. I trust I shall get a formal invitation in time for the FAO Regional Conference of 29th March to 4th April 2008. Regards Francis Were

It was good to see you at the Early Recovery and Food Security meeting this
week. There is informal communication that we may have the meeting postponed
till mid June, we are waiting for official communication on this. I will
confirm as soon as I have full details. However, my own gut-feeling is that
HQs could well decide to carry on with the set date now that the mediation
has gone on well, in which case we will have to run like mad to finalize
plans which had kind of slowed down for the last 2-3 months.
I will be on a short leave next week, lets talk later.

Happy New Year 2008! I hope all is well with you.
I have been trying to follow up the plans for the forthcoming FAO Regional
Conference scheduled to take place in Nairobi at Safari Park Hotel. The
Conference is on 31st March - 4th April 2008. The tentative Agenda is yet to
be circulated by the FAO Kenya office and Ministry of Agriculture. Could we
meet at ActionAid next week Tuesday 6th March 2008 to strategize how to
participate in this meeting and also make our voices as civil society be
heard? In case you have more information kindly share.
PELUM are you planning anything at all? How about KENFAP? Let me get your
feedback and/or suggestions on how best to participate.
