Hi,
My name is Yuri Malina, I am from france, and I am currently a 2nd year
student at Northwestern University in Chicago in the US.
Just over a year ago, I helped found an organization called Design For
America at Northwestern. We are a student organization that uses design
thinking to create local, social impact.
Our latest project is one around water sustainability. We have came up with
multiple ideas, but we've found that when you are tackling a global problem
like water sustainability, if you really mean to make a difference you have
to think bigger. You have to think less about creating single solution, and
more about creating a movement.
For this reason a group of students and I have launched a design
competition, by students for students. We call it The BetterAlternative (
www.TheBetterAlternative.org ). The idea
is that we can not simply tell people to stop wasting water, we have to
design thebetter alternative, and make conserving water easier, more
intuitive and more compelling than wasting it. There are Three $1000 prizes
for the best ideas.
