HIV Programming for Young People
On behalf of the UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on HIV and Young People, FHI 360 is putting out a call for programs or interventions that illustrate best practices in HIV interventions for young people. Interventions can represent a wide range of HIV programming including, but not limited to,
* Behavioral interventions such as mass media campaigns and sexuality education programs that attempt to motivate behavioral change within individuals and social groups using a range of motivational, skills development, and educational interventions.
* Biomedical interventions such as male circumcision, condom use, and ARVs for PMTCT that seek to block infection transfer or to decrease infectiousness.
* Structural interventions such as policies, laws, and economic empowerment projects for women that seek to change the contexts that contribute to vulnerability and risk.
Submitted programs or interventions should be aligned with at least one of the six themes of the UNIATT Global Guidance Briefs, or specifically target young people living with HIV, or adolescent girls. Submissions will be assessed by a team of experts, and those that most compellingly illustrate best practices will be included as case studies in a publication and disseminated globally. The deadline for submission of case studies is October 17, 2011.

About the Case Study Themes
Young people remain at the center of the HIV epidemic in terms of rates of infection, vulnerability, impact, and potential for change. Nearly half of all new HIV infections occur among young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Ninety-seven percent of these new infections occur in low- and middle-income countries, where young people have limited access to HIV information and care. To help UN staff members, governments, and other partners respond to the specific needs of young people, the UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on HIV and Young People developed a series called Global Guidance Briefs on HIV Interventions for Young People. Along with the these briefs, the case studies being written by FHI 360 and an annotated bibliography currently under development will form a comprehensive toolkit for practitioners.
Programs or interventions submitted for consideration must align with at least one of the themes of the IATT Global Guidance Briefs, or specifically target young people living with HIV, or adolescent girls.
