Dear members of the PTPE Internet Mailing List,
As a service of People to People International European Office you receive
information about an upcoming event.
*Subject:* The Second International Democracy Conference in Leipzig: "We are
Democracy"
*Brief description:* Around 450 interested participants are expected in
Leipzig in October, including around 100 young people from Leipzig itself.
The conference focuses on youth and university students between the ages of
18 and 27.
The Organizers believe that the stability and continuity of democracy can
only be guaranteed when young people actively shape and support it. That is
why the goal of this years International Democracy Conference is the
creation of an opportunity for constructive dialogue between politicians and
young adults.
The first International Democracy Conference took place in October 2009, in
celebration of the twentieth-anniversary of the peaceful revolution. The
conference is now a biannual event. The decisive event of the peaceful
revolution was the large Monday demonstration on the 9th of October, 1989 in
Leipzig. With their courage, the people of Leipzig contributed greatly to
the fall of the GDR regime.
