Subject: Young People and HIV/AIDS: Opportunity in Crisis

"There is a way to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS: We must focus on young
people. More than half of those newly infected with HIV today are between 15
and 24 years old. Yet the needs of the world’s 1 billion young people are
routinely disregarded when strategies on HIV/AIDS are drafted, policies made
and budgets allocated. This is especially tragic as young people are more
likely than adults to adopt and maintain safe behaviours.

This landmark report contains important new data about why young people are
key to defeating the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, including results from more
than 60 new national surveys. It reaffirms that we must accord top priority
to making investments in the well-being of young people and to engaging them
in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Produced by UNICEF, UNAIDS and WHO, the report is the first comprehensive
look at the knowledge and behaviour of people aged 15 to 24 relating to
HIV/AIDS".
