We are just one year away from...
The 12th AWID International Forum
on Women's Rights and Development
April 19-22, 2012 | Istanbul, Turkey
**
Remember, the deadline to submit
your Session Proposal is
*May 27, 2011*
Transforming economic power... are you up to the challenge?
Are you willing to move beyond your comfort zone? To question your usual
thinking? To engage with actors outside of your every day activism or
workplace? Are you ready to build alliances across boundaries so that
together we can transform economic power?
Through the 2012 AWID Forum, we aim to explore how economic power is
impacting on women and the planet, and to facilitate connections among the
very diverse groups working on these issues from both human rights and
justice approaches so that together we contribute to stronger, more
effective strategies to advance women's rights and justice.
How closely linked to the Forum theme does my session proposal need to be?
Since AWID launched the Call for Proposals, we have received some questions
about how closely linked the sessions proposals should be to the theme
of *Transforming
Economic Power to Advance Womens Rights and Justice.*
The Forum theme is intended to provide a broad framing for the discussions
at the Forum. The ten sub-themes reflect some of the core dimensions and
manifestations of economic power and are
crucial areas where economic power impacts on and intersects with diverse
womens rights issues. We hope that these sub-themes will help you to draw
the connections between the work you are doing to advance womens rights and
the *transformation of economic power*.
The proposals we have received so far, highlight diverse interpretations of
the theme of transforming economic power. From a session to bring women from
different parts of the world together to share how they have organized to
gain economic power through self-help groups, to one that explores how an
under-funded health system impacts on violence against women , the session
proposals illustrate the different ways in which economic power cuts across
all womens rights issues.
We look forward to learning how each of you will take up the challenge of
connecting your own work with the pressing theme of the 2012 Forum! If you
have any further questions about this please do not hesitate to contact us
