Subject: Advocate Update: Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Bill
Reintroduced in Congress
To: joya (at) youthaidscoalition.org

Dear Joya,

Given the relentless Republican-led Congressional attacks on women
this year, we are pleased to report that advocates of sexual and
reproductive health and rights now have a reason to celebrate. On
Friday, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D-NY) reintroduced the "Global
Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2011 (H.R. 1319),” legislation
that promotes a truly comprehensive and integrated approach to  sexual
and reproductive health in U.S. global health programs. Many of you
took action on this bill last year, which helped build momentum for
the bill to be reintroduced this year—so thank you!

The bill reflects the real-life needs of women and girls, including
those living with HIV. Among many things, the bill supports voluntary
family planning services, education, and outreach; reduction of unsafe
abortion; STI prevention, including HIV; abandonment of harmful
traditional practices such as female genital mutilation; provision of
comprehensive sexuality education for young people; and engagement of
men and boys. The bill is based on human rights principles, advances a
continuum of care approach, and supports integration of services.

Take Action for Global Sexual and Reproductive Health

We at CHANGE are excited to roll up our sleeves and get Congressional
support for this legislation, and we hope you will join us. Please
take a minute to email your member of Congress and ask her/him to
co-sponsor this important legislation, or thank her/him for being an
original co-sponsor:
