Fox News interview with anti-circumcision activist Lloyd Schofield
Feb 26th, 2011 - 11:20:38
This interview is a striking example of how the anti-male circumcision
movement grossly perverts facts to make radical, false claims in
support of the advocacy movement in San Francisco to ban medical male
circumcision (MMC) on anyone under age 18 and jail parents for a year
with a fine who circumcise their children.
Any GYCA members in SF, this movement has successfully convinced
Medicaid, the US health insurance program for low-income populations,
to stop paying for MMC in 16 states already. Please take on this
campaign, or at least spread the word!
I am happy that such a mainstream news network, Fox News, (for all its
many evils) is covering MMC. I'm disappointed that the otherwise
impressive anchorwoman doesn't mention any of the medical benefits of
MMC (preventing HIV acquisition, HPV transmission and thus cervical
cancer, penile cancer, etc etc... )
Lloyd Schofield makes blatantly false claims, for example he says that
MMC is better when it's performed on adult males at age 18, while
research show that there are higher rates of complication than when
it's performed on neonates.
Schofield claims that the CDC's recent figures says that "66% of
infants in the US are left intact. Check it out."
Actually, according to the CDC, 65-79% of infants are circumcised in
the US. CDC is rolling out MMC widely in South Africa and African
countries as a proven method of HIV and STI prevention. It's also
currently revising its MMC policies in the United States considering
evidence of its medical protective benefit.
Hopefully legislators in San Francisco won't be persuaded by this
Megyn Kelly Cuts To The Chase In Interview With Anti-Circumcision Activist

Lloyd Schofield is an anti-circumcision activist or "Intactivist" if
you like puns. He's trying to get a law on the ballot in San Francisco
that would impose jail time on any parent who gets their child
circumcised before they reach 18 years old. Schofield received a
slightly skeptical reception from Megyn Kelly on America Live today.
However, Kelly did point out that he very well may be successful.
After all, she said, San Francisco did try to ban the Happy Meal.
The interview basically turned into one of those segments where one
person says "Look at all these facts!" and the other person responds
with "Well, I don't know about those facts, but look at these facts!"
causing the first person to counter with "Yeah, those are pretty good
facts but these facts here are the best!" and on and on until
commercial. What makes this one unique is that Kelly and Schofield
keep saying the word "penis." As Kelly says to Schofield after he gave
a fairly graphic description of a circumcision, "Ok, now you've
succeeded in making every man on the crew uncomfortable."
While Kelly and Schofield definitely disagreed, it was nice that they
tried not to get snippy with each other.
