Featuring Special Guests:
Pier Montilla, Global Youth Coalition on HIV & AIDS (Philippines),
Rochelle Campbell, Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network, &
Clayton Lillienfeldt, Public Achievement South Africa
Saturday, December 4th, 3:00 p.m. 4:00p.m. GMT (Great Britain)
+ 7 Asia Pacific
Please join us in an online discussion on Universal Access and Human
Rights, the global theme recognized for World AIDS Day. To unite all those
concerned with HIV/AIDS and its impact on democracy and human rights, the
Youth Movement is hosting an online discussion that will serve as an avenue
to deepen understanding of HIV/AIDS advocacy at the crossroads of democracy
advancement, to raise awareness for the work of HIV/AIDS activists such as
Tian Xi of China and Maxim Popov of Uzbekistan who are currently in prison
for their selfless dedication to the cause, and to discuss ways and share
insights on how to build solidarity for them and others.
To register, please email info (at) wymdonline.org with your name and
affiliation. Prior to the discussion you will receive login information to
join the online forum, which will be hosted on www.meebo.com.
Guide Discussion Questions:
1) What are the underlying messages of the theme and how does it apply to
democracy in your community?
2) What are the challenges that HIV/AIDS advocates face? How unique are
these from other advocates?
3) Maxim Popov is currently serving a 7 year prison term in Uzbekistan for
distributing information on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases
and raising awareness on healthy lifestyles. Maxim provided resources and
education that the government was not providing its citizens. What creative
ways can youth contribute to the void of social services, such as education
on HIV/AIDS, not provided by their government while still operating safely
in restrictive environments?
4) Tian Xi was infected with HIV from a blood transfusion when he was just a
young boy in China. He has since become a very outspoken activist on the
unregulated medical practices in China that have lead to an epidemic of HIV
infections and the governments poor response to treatment and compensation
for victims, which has landed him in prison. How can we provide
action-oriented solidarity for Tian Xi while he is in prison?

and risk spaces connected with a common dream for youth empowerment. Gabay
as commonly called, is a registered non-stock, non-profit and non-government
organization established in 1999. Since its founding, it has pioneered

offering them life tools that facilitate in making informed decisions and in
shaping their own solutions to issues confronting them particularly
education, poverty and sexual and reproductive health. Recognized as one the
most outstanding youth organizations in the Philippines in 2003 in Iloilo
City and 2008 in Bacolod City by the National Youth Commission.
