Dear Colleagues,
Here is a brief update of some recent activities undertaken by the UNAIDS Inter-agency Task Team on HIV and Young People (IATT/YP) and the UNAIDS Outcome Framework Working Groups.
UNAIDS Outcome Framework Working Group:
UNFPA, the UNAIDS Secretariat, UNESCO, UNICEF and WHO co-organized a 2-day consultation focused on the development of a Business Case for the UNAIDS outcome framework (2009-2011) priority area of “empowering young people to protect themselves from HIV" from 26 to 27 October
2009 in New York.
More than 45 participants attended the consultation, including: government officials from Côte d’Ivoire, Jamaica, Tanzania
and Zimbabwe, civil society representatives including youth-serving and youth-led organizations, and networks of people living with HIV, UN partners including country, regional and HQ staff from ILO, PAHO,
UNAIDS Secretariat, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNODC, WHO, and
other technical experts with extensive experience in developing, promoting, and monitoring HIV prevention interventions for young people.
During the consultation, participants reviewed a “draft business case” that had been developed by the inter-agency working
group to advance this priority area, and agreed on the process for finalizing the business case for the UNAIDS programme coordinating board (PCB) meeting in December 2009.
Information on the consultation including presentations, can be found here:

The consultation report will be posted on the site shortly

Activity C: Advocate with UNAIDS
The introductory letter sent by the IATT to Michel Sidibe was very well received. He specifically noted that it would be an "excellent idea to use IATT to help move ahead to put the young people priority into action".

Activity A: Production and dissemination of Global Guidance Briefs
2000 English, 1000 French and 1000 Spanish Global Guidance Briefs have been printed. 625 French and 625 Spanish have been disseminated in 42 countries via UNFPA country offices and an additional 1640 GGBs have were sent directly to IATT/YP members based on a rapid request survey sent out on 28 September 2009. All IATT/YP members will be receiving at least 1 box of English GGBs (40 Copies) shortly. Please inform us if you will need any additional copies.
The translation of the GGBs into Portuguese has been finalized. The Mandarin, Arabic and Russian versions are still first drafts and we
need your assistance in reviewing these drafts. (Please indicate whether you would like to help review in any of these languages).
Activity C: Documentation of good practices on coordination at country level
The first phase of the “ Documentation of Good Practices on Coordination at Country level” by the BBC World Trust has been
completed.
In depth interviews were held with representatives from 15 countries in the following regions: Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa- using
a structured questionnaire 8 out of the 15 countries have been identified as possible candidates of good examples for coordination and joint programming on HIV and young people.
BBC is currently in the process of selecting 3 of the 8 countries for documentation and these will feature on the interactive CD-ROM to be produced in phase 2 .
Activity D: Other
