  Dear Annelies, dear all,
my name is Fabio, come from Italy. I got to know about GYCA after the Aids
2008 Conference in Mexico, and i had the opportunity to met one of your
activists during an international exchange. I'd really like to know better
what GYCA is and how to get active in it also in the European region.

I am national youth coordinator for Arcigay (www.arcigay.it), the largest
lesbian and gay organisation in italy. We are active in 40 local centres all
over the country developing services on issues such as: mental health,
education, social inclusion, intercultural dialogue and finally STDs
prevention.
On the latest issues we are currently seeking for new approaches to gain
attention to the youngest generations. Unfortunately we cannot account too
much on national institutions in order to cover information needs with
focused campaigns (only three initiatives using the word "condom" in 20
years on the record).
This is actually producing a gap of knowledge and awareness in the newest
generations where attention not just to hiv but on all the STDs is lowering
down.

Personally i'd really like to explore other organisations interest in
networking together and explore potential cooperation and joint projects
having as a common ground: fight against AIDS/HIV and focus on youth. A good
way in Europe could be organizing a "contact making seminar" by applying to
the "Youth in Action" programme (you should get in touch with your national
agency in order to get to know more about this). It is quite simple and it
could provide within 4 months resources to call for an international
exchange when young activists could share knowledge and experience and brain
storm on future actions (non-formal education methodology).

To the best of my knowledge there are couple of networks in europe that
could be of interest to contact: Aids Action Europe network (umbrella
organisation / mainstream on different generations), IGLYO (focusing on:
LGBTQ youth and student), European Youth Forum, etc.

For what concerns European Aids Conference in in Cologne, i can't say much.
I can just expect our policy officers on sexual health to attend but we're
not thinking about any specific action or project to bring to the attention.

Finally we look forward to develop a project for Aids Conference 2010 in
Wien and bring a broad delegation of young attendees, but no ideas yet.

Here are my contacts for whoever would like to get to know better Arcigay
