Subject: I'm faithful to my Condom...outcome of continous sensitisation....

Sent: Sep 8th, 2011 - 16:01:35

  I'm faithful to my Condom.

AT the Games Village of the 10th
All Africa Games on-going in
Maputo stood this giant sign
with inscription ‘Pleasure! I’m
faithful to my condom’. The banner flutters in the air and
creates a beauty at the entrance
of the Games Village. Thousands of athletes go
through admiring it. The
message is clear. Condom is the
way out. Many who have
fingered sports as one of the
major areas through which people spread the virus are
forewarning athletes. The beautiful lasses who trot
around with dresses and shots
that leave little for imagination
lead many into temptation. To
avoid asking for forgiveness of
our trespasses, the sign becomes necessary. For those who cannot abstain
like us, the condom becomes the
umbrella of hope. With the high
cost of living here, the bevy of
beauties answer even when you
cough or clear your throat. But then, A Unicef report posted
on its website a few months ago
says HIV/Aids is the country’s
greatest single threat to the
well-being of children and
women and to the development of the country as a whole. The
report says this development
has seen the soaring in numbers
of child and maternal mortality
rates, increased number of
orphaned children as well as young girls joining the sex
industry. It is further estimated that there
are 600 new infections per day
with 25 percent of the new
cases recorded among children
aged 0-18 years. Frightening!
These figures will hit the roof top after the All Africa Games.
Their beautiful girls are on the
loose. The other day I jokingly asked
my friend; “what if the condom
is proved not to stop the deadly
virus? He shouted, “Ah! Why do
you always allow your mind to
think of evil things. That will be catastrophic”, he yelled. This is
enough to make one behave
and come home in one piece.
