In this joint report, five former directors of USAID's Office of
Population and Reproductive Health document the urgent need for
greater U.S. assistance for family planning programs in the developing
world. With close to 200 years of combined experience on these issues,
spanning every presidential administration from Jimmy Carter to George
W. Bush, the authors know first-hand family planning's value as an
essential and highly successful component of U.S. health and
development assistance. In order to address the large remaining need
for family planning in the developing world, the report calls for
scaling up the U.S. investment in these programs to $1.5 billion by
2014.
Please join Population Action International in conjunction with the
Global Health Council, the Population Institute and Reps. Russ
Carnahan, Joe Crowley, Mark Kirk and Betty McCollum for a briefing
featuring former directors of the Population and Reproductive Health
Programs of USAID Steven Sinding (1983-1986), Duf Gillespie
(1986-1993) and Margaret Neuse (2000-2006).
