Sujet: Famine hinders Aids treatment
Envoyé: Sep 3rd, 2009 - 07:32:41

  Dear all,

AIDS Story from Gulu, Uganda by Daily Monitor Reporter Patience Aber:

As famine continues to cause distress to people in north and eastern Uganda,
people living with HIV/Aids are finding it hard to remain on anti-retroviral
therapy, Daily Monitor has learnt.

This was revealed by the regional manager of The Aids Support Organization
(Taso), Mr Henry Muzora, last week. “Food shortage has become a big
challenge to our clients who are on drugs. This time it has even been
doubled by the long dry spell in the country. Yet these drugs are very
strong, you cannot take them on an empty stomach,” Mr Muzora said at a Aids
meeting held in Gulu Town.

He, however, did not give the statistics of clients who have shunned ART.
He said most organizations which used to supply their clients with food had
stopped.
