Subject: International essay contest for young people: ‘Creating the Future We Want’

This International Essay Contest for Young People is organised by the Goi
Peace Foundation and UNESCO and among the endorsers are the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. This contest
seeks to ‘harness the energy, imagination and initiative of the world’s
youth in promoting a culture of peace and sustainable development.’ It also
aims ‘to inspire society to learn from the young minds and to think about
how each of us can make a difference in the world’.****

The 2012 theme is: “Creating the Future We Want”: the future begins in the
vision we hold. Share your vision of the future world and how we can make
it come true.****

The essays entries are divided into two age groups: children up to 14 years
of age and youth between 15 and 25. The essays, which can be written in
English, French, Spanish, German (with up to 800 words) and Japanese (1600
characters or less), must be received by the Goi Peace Foundation any time
before 30 June.****

1st prize: Certificate and100.000 Yen (approx. US$1,300) 2nd prize:
Certificate and 50,000 Yen ($US650), and 3rd prize: Certificate and gift.
1st prize winner will also be invited to the award ceremony in Tokyo. For
