I am Esther Agbarakwe, From Nigeria, West Africa.I work with the Earth
Charter youth Initiative and I coordinate Nigerian Youth Climate
coalition (NYCC)
On May 4th 2009 at the UN Headquarters with the support of the youth
Caucus members I delivered the youth opening statement at the Opening
session of UN Commission on Sustainable Development 17th Session,
among many other tasks of representing African youths, in that
statement I said " “Swords into ploughshares, words into action”. My
neighbors in Nigeria and other parts of the world have to use those
ploughshares everyday to feed their children. Some are not aware of
the UN's discussions, but their futures depend on the decisions made
here at the CSD and, more importantly, your commitment to implementing
them nationally. I was indeed filled with a deep sense of humility
and responsibility by the"
enormous task of lobbying for youth participation especially those of
African youth participation at the CSDs
The CSD Youth Caucus is an international network of over 2,000 youth
leaders from hundreds of individuals and organisations, many of which
are themselves national networks, that brings together young people
with a desire to build a more sustainable world. The focus of the
caucus is two-fold. First, to facilitate youth input into the United
Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, the primary
international forum concerned with issues of Sustainability, and
secondly to foster information sharing and communication between a
diverse network of youth organisations who share a common interest in
sustainability
An Environment where Adults believe that they have the monopoly of
Knowledge can not lead to a sustainable future in Africa!!
May I also say that I was an Earth Charter Youth representative and
with the support of the German Govt, my participation was made

After some consultation with some African Youth Rep at the UN CSD, I
have applied for the post of African Regional Coordinator at United
Nations CSD Major Group on Children & Youth. This is continue the work
that has been started and to effectively promote and advocate for
African youth particpation at the UN CSD 18 and beyond!
I am therefore seeking your mandate and votes when the elections start

With the skills gained during my participation at e-GLO (Earth Charter
Global Learning Opportunity) and at various local and Int'l capacity
building opportunities I have the technical as well as mental
capacity to effectively lead the African youths at the Youth and
Children Major Group and in order to gather input from youth in
African region (input could be specific projects that youth from the
region would like to share as case studies and/or specific policy
outcomes) as well as participate or ensure other youth from African
region attend the RIMS and other preparatory meetings that are part of
the CSD process.
