Hi everyone,
I am 26 year old, Johnny from Grenada (Caribbean), I am communtiy development officer , in our ministry of youth development. Our population is 105,000, with 40% considered as youth. Our minister of youth development is 32 years old.

I must say that the leaders in my country have recognized the importance of youth empowerment and the part that employment plays in youth empowerment. Most young persons in my country have completed secondary school education, which is free. The government also offers a number of scholarships and economic bursaries to students.

My government introduced a $10 million us project, called the IMANI (which means faith) program. The project offers young people an opportunity for training, in a field of their choice in both the public and private sector. The Project is for 2 years, during which many persons receive permanent placements at the respective business houses, based on their performance, they also receive stipend of $700 per month. Participants are expected to improve themselves academically while o the program, and are expected to attend personal development training every two weeks. So far, 2000 young persons was a part of the program with 400 persons receiving permanent jobs, since it’s inception in 2006.

A number of international hotels are considering constructing hotels in our country, thus the need for many more qualified nationals to fill the many vacancies that would arise. It is on this premise that the Ministry of education has decided to launch a $15 million project called Training and Employment Project. Over 2000 young persons would be trained in the hospitality field, the training is free and they would receive a stipend for transportation.

I think my country is doing their share to battle youth unemployment.

love all...Johnny
