GUiC +10 is just three days away. Below is important information for the
workshop. Attached is a word document with the same information for
printing convenience.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING
The forecast as of today is for rain showers, with temperatures between
15C and 20C (mid 50s to 70 Fahrenheit). BE SURE TO BRING A SWEATER,
COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES FOR COOL, WET WEATHER, AND A RAIN JACKET AND/OR
UMBRELLA.
FOOD
We are providing lunch as well as morning coffee/tea/juice service all
three days, as well as Wednesday dinner. Thursday dinner is not provided,
however an informal group outing for Thursday evening is in the works.
Friday will be at the opening ceremonies of the World Youth Forum. Lunch
is being provided at the Youth Forum on Saturday and Sunday. A continental
breakfast is being provided at the World Urban Forum from 8:00-9:30 in the
concourse of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre. There are
many inexpensive food options available on campus and in the downtown
area.

GETTING THERE
We are sending a link by email to the campus map showing the location of
Thea Koerner house. Use the link to find information about driving
directions and parking.
The main bus terminal on campus is located next to the Student Union
Building. Buses run frequently to downtown Vancouver (catch the #10 or #4
bus). For further information call BC Transit at (604) 521-0400 or go to
www.bctransit.com.
FROM DOWNTOWN BY TRANSIT - take any bus that states UBC as its
destination. In Vancouver, bus routes #4, #9, #17, #25, #41, #43, #44,
#49, #99 B-Line, #258 and #480 will all take you to UBC. Skytrain
passengers can get off at Broadway Station and then transfer onto the #99
B-Line bus to UBC.
FROM THE AIRPORT you can take a taxi, or take bus #424 to Airport Station,
transfer to bus #98 B-Line, get off at Granville St. at Broadway, and
transfer to either the #17 UBC or #99 UBC buses.

People who have booked accommodations with the GUiC group at UBC should

THE FRONT DESK IS OPEN 24 HOURS. All of our bookings are at the Gage
residence halls.
Following is information from the UBC Conference Center:
Directions to Walter Gage: Once you reach the campus, please look for
signs directing you to the Walter Gage Complex. Look for three 17-floor
towers.
From S.W. Marine Drive, turn right onto West 16th Avenue, at the second
set of traffic lights turn left onto Wesbrook Mall. Follow Wesbrook Mall
past the main intersection at University Blvd., and turn left onto Student
Union Blvd. at Gate 2.
From University Blvd., turn right onto Wesbrook Mall. Follow for one block
and turn left onto Student Union Blvd. at Gate 2.
From Chancellor Blvd., turn left onto Wesbrook Mall. Follow for one block
and turn right onto Student Union Blvd. at Gate 2.
Check-in: Check-in time is 2:00 pm. The Front Desk is located at 5959
Student Union Blvd.
Check-out: Check-out time is 11:00 am. Please return your keys to the
Front Desk on your day of departure. Enquire at the Front Desk for
information on our "Express Check-Out" service. Luggage storage is
available for guests.
Front Desk: The Front Desk is open 24 hours a day. The Front Desk staff
will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your
accommodation, the campus, or city attractions.
Guest Payments: UBC housing accepts Visa, Mastercard, Traveler's Cheques,
Interac, and cash, in Canadian or American funds. Guests who have reserved
single rooms with shared washroom are asked to pay for room charges at
check-in. Guests who have reserved private suites may settle all charges
at check-out when a Visa or Mastercard is presented to the Front Desk at
check-in. Guests who do not present a credit card are asked to pay in full
at check-in. No personal cheques please.
Currency Exchange: Banks are located in the Student Union Building and the
University Village. Currency can be exchanged during regular banking
hours. An Automated Teller Machine is located in the main lobby of the
Walter Gage Complex.
Parking: Limited complimentary parking is available from May to August, on
a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking is available in the
parkade next to the Walter Gage Complex at $2.00 hourly, to a maximum of
$11.00 per day.
Telephone calls and messages: If you have a telephone that can be used
universally you will be able to make phone calls but the roaming
international charges, but the costs are outrageous. It is recommended to
use phone cards that are $5 or $10 each and allow you to make a number of
calls. Long Distance Calling Cards are available for purchase in the main
lobby.
All suites have telephones with a voice mail messaging service. To contact
a guest's voice mail, please call the Reservations Office at (604)
822-1010. Single rooms with shared washroom are not equipped with
telephones. Pay phones are located in the main lobby. Messages for guests
without telephones can be left with the Reservations Office. They are
posted in the main lobby and guests are asked to check the Message Board
regularly. Messages are delivered to rooms once daily between 4:00pm and
8:00pm.
Faxes: Faxes may be sent from the Reservations Office between 8:00am and
9:00pm, and can be received free of charge at (604) 822-1011.

Food Services: Meals are available in the Student Union Building (across
from Gage residence), at the University Village food fair (approximately 5
minutes walk), and at various other food outlets on campus (please see the
Front Desk for details). A small convenience store is located in the main
lobby of Walter Gage residence. A pharmacy, bank, dry cleaner, travel
agent, and two convenience stores are also located in the UBC Village.
