Below is logistical information to help you prepare for GUiC +10 in
Vancouver, June 14th-16th:
CHECKLIST OF SEVEN THINGS TO DO (more info on each topic follows):
1) make sure you have your passport and visa!
2) confirm lodging needs if you're staying at UBC campus with the GUiC group
3) make sure you're registered for WUF
4) email us your goals/expectations for the workshop (so we can make sure
we have an agenda that works for everyone)
5) prepare a poster about your project(s)
6) prepare a brief presentation about your project(s)
7) come ready to share, learn, work and have fun!
1) PASSPORTS AND VISAS
Anyone outside of Canada needs a passport (including US residents) to enter
the country. Check regarding visa requirements for your country if you're
not sure (US residents do NOT need a visa). If you need an official letter
of invitation, let Sage know! (sbf26 (at) cornell.edu)
2) LODGING
We have reserved a block of rooms at University of British Columbia. If you
are planning to stay with us there, please confirm your dates of arrival
and departure with Sage! (sbf26 (at) cornell.edu) The rates are reasonable, and
a short walk to the GUiC+10 location.
3) WUF REGISTRATION
You need to be registered to get into the WUF area starting on Monday June
19. It's free, easy and online. Go to www.unhabitat.org/wuf and click on
the registration button.
4) GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR GUiC+10
We want to make sure that GUiC+10 meets your goals and expectations. Please
send a quick email to Louise (chawla393 (at) aol.com) with a sentence or two
about what you hope to get out of GUiC+10. At the end of the third day,
what would need to happen for you to feel like it was a success?
5) POSTERS
There will be an opportunity to display information about your projects at
GUiC+10 and in the exhibit area at WUF. See the attached 'Guidelines for
GUiC Posters' document for more information!
6) PRESENTATIONS
We want to spend time on our first day together hearing about each other's
projects and sharing 'lessons learned.' Because of our numbers, we will do
most of this in small groups. Please come prepared to give a short
presentation in a small group about the project work you have done. This
can be GUiC-specific, or (if new to GUiC) related work you have been doing,
or plan to do. There is also some time in the agenda for presentation to
the large group of select case studies. We currently have Tokyo,
Guadalajara and NYC scheduled for this, but that could change. If you would
like to have your project included in the case study presentations, let us
know.
7) BE PREPARED FOR A BUSY TIME!
The second page of the attached flyer lists a number of events that we hope
all of you will participate in, including the GUiC Networking Event on
Monday, June 19 (more on this to follow), a Youth Reception being co-hosted
by GUiC on Monday, June 19 (after the networking session), and a Youth
Roundtable on Wednesday, June 21.
If you would like to be taken off the GUiC+10 email list, please email Sage
at sbf26 (at) cornell.edu.
