What is The Girls Alliance?
The Girls Alliance is global and non-governmental young women’s network. It is a network that realizes the great need to bring together all young women
regardless of race, religion, physical, social and culture differences etc from all
the global villages to enable them network, share experiences, cooperate, build our capacities, unify, develop, as well as advocate and empower ourselves
for greater participation in achievement of UNMDGs, ICPD, PoA, other global issues that affect women. The network works to break the barrier and chain of marginalisation, discrimination and devaluation of women at all levels.

OUR MISSION: Greater participation of young women in achievement of UNMDG, ICPD ad PoA.

OUR VISION is to empower young women and create enabling environment for their full and greater participation in global development issues at all levels. To promote greater participation of the young women on achievement of MDGs, gender equity, human rights, girl child’s rights through mobilization and networking

CORE ACTIVITIES
Advocacy and Policy dialogue: The networks priority is to advocate for enabling social, cultural, political and economic environment for young women’s participation

Networking: GA networks with groups and individuals that focus on women development, participation, rights, health and emancipation

Capacity Building: The GA builds the capacity of young women through sharing of information and best practices, workshops, education and peer training

Consultation: GA consults with various socio-cultural, professional and nongovernmental groups of young women to identify situations, monitor and evaluate practices, policies and programs that target and affect young women.

Service Provision: GA seeks to provide services that are relevant to
development of young women, organizing and facilitating of
programs, that give voice to young women at individual, group, community, national, regional and global levels.

BACKGROUND
The GA was established in 2005 after consultation with some young women affected by unhealthy cultural practices that make them receptive to various sorts of inhuman treatments. The GA first operated as network of few young girls in various higher institutions in Eastern Nigeria. The group member later decided to expand the network and later extends to global circle.
The office of the network is currently located at Km 2 St Paul’s Road Ojoto, Anambra State, Nigeria.

The Objectives of the GA include:
Ø To prepare young women for greater participation in development issues in their local, national and regional as well as global locations.
Ø To empower young women against the challenges facing them that intimidation, abuse, rights violation, discrimination, devaluation, marginalisation, exploitation, trafficking, disease etc.
Ø Promote enabling policy and socio-cultural environment that enhances women participation and development.
Ø Coordination of young women to have voice in policy issues, socio-cultural and economic issues in the society.
Ø Providing a representative voice for the young women through printed materials, electronic media, etc
Ø Coordination of activities and programs that bring young women together and build their capacity and equip them to respond positively, act in accordance to speed up the achievement of the UNMDGs, ICPD, PoA.
Ø To embark on various kind of consultations with various groups women in various location.
Ø To partner with groups working in the areas of population and development, gender, heath, human rights, educational and cultural programs in favour of young women.
Ø Dissemination and sharing of up-to-date information, opportunities and best practices among young women
Ø Build and strengthen strong Girls Network at Global, Regional, National and local levels.
Ø To promoting youth exchange programmes fr young women

The GA Values
GA programs and activities are guided by its values that are as follows:
· The promotion of peace, equity and respect for principles of young women’s human rights
· Commitment to the total well being of young women, physically, intellectually, emotionally, culturally, and morally regardless of colour, race, social or cultural differences.
· Pursuit of equitable and non-discriminatory opportunities for the development of unique potentials of young women.
· Respect for human dignity, diversity and unity as they affects young women
