GULUWALK DAY: 60 SECONDS FOR PEACE
We are sending this to you today because we truly believe that you need to
know about, and 'see' the hidden war happening right now in northern Uganda.
For 19 years, the people of northern Uganda have been victimized by a brutal
war that has pitted a rebel army against the government, with children being
caught in the crossfire. Thousands of children have been abducted, forced to
kill, tortured and sexually abused. 40,000 kids trek nightly for miles into
town centers where they sleep on streets and in tents to avoid abduction by
the rebel army. While it is one of our generation's most extreme
humanitarian crises, it remains neglected by the world.
You can help change that. October 22nd is GuluWalk Day, the largest-ever
global action for an end to this unnecessary suffering . . . Please take 60
seconds for peace . . . Sixty seconds for the children of northern Uganda .
. . Sixty seconds to 'see' why we're walking in more than 40 cities world
wide for peace and the protection of children in northern Uganda.

In Washington, DC, GuluWalk Day will begin at 3:30 at the Embassy of Uganda
(5911 16th St, served by Metrobus). Walkers will proceed four miles down
16th Street, finishing at Lafayette Park (across from the White House) where
a vigil will take place from 6:30-7:30PM. Walkers are also encouraged to
stay the night outside (in Lafayette Park), as many children in Uganda do to
avoid abduction, and to walk back to the Embassy in the morning. For more
details on the DC walk, visit www.guluwalk.com/washington or email walk
organizer Reid Rector at rrector (at) ugandacan.org.
Feel free to forward this information on to help end this violation of human
life.
See you on GuluWalk Day: October 22, 2005!
