Peace Child International offers work experience

Peace Child International, Hertfordshire, UK -Writer /Editor
Peace Child International (PCI), a youth-led development and educational
charity with consultative status at the United Nations, seeks a full-time
motivated editor/writer to join its team of international interns for 12
months, starting July 2006.
You'll be working primarily on the planning and production of TUNZA
magazine, the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) quarterly youth
publication. You'll work closely with our publisher in Cambridge and the PCI
designer to plan the layout, content and overall direction for the magazine
from the ground up - from researching key themes, pitching story ideas to
writing and commissioning articles. Some international travel (to
conferences and meetings) is a distinct possibility! You will be researching
and writing many of the stories yourself.
In addition to your work with TUNZA, you'll be given many opportunities to
contribute to PCI's other projects. These could include: environmental
education outreaches to British schools; preparations for the 4th World
Youth Congress 2008; production of promotional and informational literature;
fundraising activities for our field offices and development projects
overseas, etc. We are a flexible, informal organisation - so you'll be
prepared to be flexible, creative and pitch in wherever you can.
This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring young journalists interested
in a career in newspapers, magazines and broadcasting. You'll be given as
much responsibility as you can handle, and will end the year with a
portfolio of published work from the four issues of the magazine.
This position is a residential internship located in Hertfordshire, UK.
Communal accommodation, food, domestic travel expenses and a small weekly
stipend are provided. You'll definitely have enough to live on, but your
real gains will be in work experience, contacts and personal development.

Qualifications: Good first degree in any subject, with an academic
background or strong interest in writing, international affairs and
environmental issues. Previous journalism experience and a demonstrated
ability to write clearly and succinctly to deadline are absolutely essential
- as is close attention to detail, especially spelling and grammar!
Experience living abroad and working with people from different cultural and
linguistic backgrounds would also be helpful.

Peace Child International (PCI), a youth-led development and educational
charity with consultative status for the United Nations, seeks a full-time
designer to join its team of international interns for 12 months, beginning
early summer 2005.
You'll be working primarily on the planning and production of TUNZA
magazine, the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) quarterly youth
publication with an outreach to 4 million people and growing. You'll work
as part of the Banson Publishers team in Cambridge and the PCI editor to
plan the layout, content and overall direction for the magazine from the
ground up. Key responsibilities include: creating high-quality final artwork
that fulfils design briefs accurately and work within TUNZA's style and
orientation; accurate type setting for English and foreign language versions
including French and Spanish; researching appropriate images for
illustrating materials and providing accurate captioning and crediting;
preparing and checking final artwork files for production and scanning image
files as required; and archiving artwork files in a consistent manner.
In addition to your work with TUNZA, you will be a crucial part of designing
and developing PCI brochures, posters and educational materials as needed.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to PCI's other projects,
which could include: environmental education outreaches to British schools;
preparations for the 4th World Youth Congress 2007; fundraising activities
for our field offices and development projects overseas, etc. We are a
flexible, informal organisation - so you must be prepared to be adaptable,
creative and pitch in wherever you can.
This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring young designers looking to
build their professional portfolio and gain experience in magazine
production in the UK. You'll be given as much responsibility as you can
handle.
This position is a residential internship located in Hertfordshire, UK.

accommodation of 2 and 4 persons per room, food, domestic travel expenses

Qualifications: You will have practical experience and preferably university
training in the graphic design industry and a proven ability to produce
high-quality artwork and layout, with an eye for detail. You will also
possess an excellent working knowledge of graphic design and typography,
pre-press requirements and picture research/photo library procedures, as
well as the ability to prepare files for output, ensuring all fonts, images
and artwork files are supplied accurately to printer. Familiarity with Mac
platforms under the Mac OS X operating system is essential, as is a good
knowledge of either QuarkXpress or InDesign and Photoshop and Illustrator.
An excellent command of English is also crucial, and experience with foreign
language type setting (and partial knowledge of French, Spanish or German)
is desirable.
Additionally, you will understand mark up instructions and corrections,
ensuring that appropriate amends to artwork are carried out accurately and
rapidly when required, and work and communicate effectively as part of a
team while meeting strict production deadlines. You'll also demonstrate an
enthusiastic attitude to UNEP's and Tunza's goals and a willingness to
improve and develop this fairly young project.
