  Course Announcement

The Management Development Institute (MDI) Program for HIV/AIDS service
providers is a one-week intensive program designed for top management of
African organizations dedicated to providing prevention, treatment and care
and support services in the area of HIV/AIDS. The goal of the program is
to provide leaders of these service organizations with management tools,
frameworks, and knowledge that enable them to increase the quantity and
quality of services they provide.

The program has been designed by world-class management faculty from the
prestigious University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and is delivered
in conjunction with instructors from African universities. The program is
funded by Johnson & Johnson, one of the most admired companies in the world
today, and is offered in cooperation with The African Medical and Research
Foundation (AMREF) in Nairobi and the Ghana Institute of Management and
Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.

The program targets top-level executives and managers of HIV/AIDS service
organizations and recommends that at least two managers from the same
organization attend the same training session. Upon completion of the
training the candidates receive a certificate from the University of
California.

In 2009, the program will be held for Eastern and Southern Africa
Organizations on 23 - 29 August, at the AMREF International Training Centre
in Nairobi. The application deadline for the course is 23rd July, 2009.

The language of instruction in both programs is English.

The cost of the MDI training program is US$ 4,000 per participant. Johnson
and Johnson awards scholarships to managers who have the greatest potential
to positively impact the quantity and quality of services in their
organization. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition, training
materials, accommodation and meals. Travel expenses, if required, will be
borne by the participants. Upon completion of this training, candidates
will be required to apply the knowledge and skills gained to resolve a
management issue or obstacle in their organization. Please find attached an
application form for the April program.

To apply for these scholarships and access additional information on the
program, please visit the MDI website:
http://www.anderson.ucla.edu/mdi.xml . Shortlisted applicants will be
contacted for an interview at least four weeks before the course begins.
