Health & Development Networks (HDN), supported by Irish Aid and the Bernard van Leer Foundation, is pleased to announce a structured online discussion on children and HIV/AIDS to be held on a new dialogue and social networking platform HealthDev.net (www.healthdev.net).

Starting 7 July 2008, postings, articles and comments focusing on the impact of the HIV epidemic on children and young people will be posted on HealthDev in a specialist group on Children and HIV/AIDS to increase dialogue and awareness of these issues. You are welcome to register on Healthdev.net, join the specialist group on Children and HIV/AIDS and participate in the discussions.

The first activity will be a short structured discussion in the lead up to the International AIDS Conference (IAC), 3-8 August 2008, being held in Mexico City, Mexico. Four themes will be addressed over the coming weeks, derived from a framework developed by UNICEF, and the Joint Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS (JLICA): strengthening families; community and civil society; access to services, and human rights; social and economic policies.

During the International AIDS Conference, to be held in Mexico in August 2008, a team of specialist writers supported by HDN will be tracking the theme of HIV and children/young people, and reports will be regularly posted on this site. You are welcome to comment on these, and on the post-conference articles that will be submitted in the months following the event. You will be able to add your own suggestions, links and articles, which you are able to do, once you join up as a member of this group.

Feel free to comment on any of the postings or the comments of other members, and we look forward to a vigorous and informative series of discussions.

We hope you find the activities here engaging, interesting and stimulating, and we look forward to your contributions. For more information, please contact Godsway (godsway (at) hdnet.org ).
