Dear all,
NOTE: For those of you who have not registered yet for the Third International Policy Conference on the African Child and Second All Africa Consultative Meeting
The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) is announcing the Third International Policy Conference on the African Child, which will take place from 12-13 May 2008 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia .
The International Policy Conference on the African Child has now become a major event on the African calendar and gained increased international recognition as a major forum for debate and networking on children's issues.
This year's conference is on the important theme of Child Poverty in Africa . It is, as in the past, expected to attract a considerable number of academics, experts and child rights activists from Africa and beyond. We are currently in consultation with a number of distinguished African statesmen and leading authorities on the subject, and we expect a high turnout.
Child poverty is a major, possibly the biggest obstacle for the fulfilment of rights in Africa . Our knowledge of it, however, is limited. What little we know is based on scattered empirical data and anecdotal evidence. We don't know enough about the nature, dimension and magnitude of the problem. Nor do we know enough about what is being done to address it or how to deal with it. These are some of the themes included in the Conference Programme.
We kindly ask you to participate in this important event and disseminate the information to as many of your members as possible.
The African Child Policy Forum is also calling a second All Africa Consultative Meeting of children, youth and human rights organizations to deliberate on the recommendations of the Committee. This meeting is scheduled for 11 May 2008 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia starting at 9:30 a.m. under the umbrella of the Third International Policy Conference. All interested child-rights/ youth and human-rights organizations are invited to be a part of this potentially historic conference during which organizations will launch a movement for and on behalf of children in Africa .
Registration and participation is free for your organisation. This doesn't include travel expenses or accommodation.
Please register online at www.africanchildfor um.org/ipc/ . Space is limited so early registration is advised.
We hope you will participate in this event and look forward to hearing from you.
