Dear Change Agent,
Hope this mail meets you well.
I am Niyi Akinremi a former Facilitator on the MAC Project. I was a Facilitator at Abuja and Sokoto Camps in March 2007 and October 2007 respectively.
Going through the mails of your exploits at respective NYSC Camps, am happy that Nigeria is moving on in the achievement of the MDGs.
MY CHALLENGE
The current educational system in Nigeria only makes the youth to be full of academic theories at the expense of real life situations and inability to think out of the box given the challenges of the social, business and economic environment they found themselves. The system does not provide platforms or avenues for personal and career development which helps make the youth creative thereby becoming problem solvers and change agents within their communities, the nation and the world at large.
The youth that is not exposed to what it means to develop skills and know-how required for his/her given profession will leave him/her unemployable, financially dependent and a liability to the family, society and the country at large.
To proffer solution to this challenge, I have come up with a project tagged “BEYOND CERTIFICATE COLLOQUIUM”. The Colloquium is designed essentially to enable participants (graduates and undergraduate) acquire the knowledge, skills and techniques that will enable them build their personal life and career and business. In actual terms the Colloquium will:
Equip participants with the skills of personal development and effectiveness
Expose participants to issues on employability
Equip participants with the knowledge and skills of handling challenges after college education
Expose participants to the different career and professions that can be taken up within and outside the country
To raise ambition of participants to aim high and seek satisfying careers
To sharpen strategic thinking, energy deployment and resource optimization skills
To practically enlighten and empower participants on the various success strategies (which are legal and dignifying) they can adopt to stand out as achievers in the current Nigerian situation
To help participants acquire in depth entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to start and/or grow their businesses
To stir up participants to be involved in the process of nation building
MY REQUEST
This project has been on my mind for years and God has also being telling me to arise and raise a genertaion of change agents who are mentally, spritually, personally and career effective among youths especially in the church. The Colloquium is planned to last for two (2) Saturdays at different platforms. It is intended to take off in 3rd week in October 2009 at Mushin, Lagos State
I humbly request that you support this project in either and/or all of the following:
i. Volunteer to Faciliatete Session(s) at the Colloquium. Week One will deal with issues contered around personal and career development; while Week 2 will deal with issues on Business development.
ii. Financial assistance. The following are the financial needs for each Colloquium
a. Rent of Projector and projector Stand
b. Refreshments for the participants
c. Administrative logistics- printing of certificate of participation, training manual, etc
