ABOUT CAGOS

Center for adolescents and geriatrics outreach services (CAGOS) is an indigenous and independent non-profit charitable organization that was established in December 1999. CAGOS targets both the youth and the old across the continuance of ageing because these are the most vulnerable members of the society.
Many communities today tend to marginalize the youth and the older people. It is assumed that the youth are problem free since they are young and full of life, while the old on the other hand are assumed to have accomplished their mission in life and therefore do not need attention. The situation is worse for the girl child and older women. In child hood, girls often receive less nutrition, education, and health care than boys. Because of challenges faced by women as they age, older women are more likely to experience poverty than older men, older people especially women will continue to face assaults on their life and dignity unless we take cognizance of their needs that keep changing in the face of emerging challenges of HIV/AIDS, Drug and substance abuse worsening economic situation and erosion of traditional values.

Our story

CAGOS has been successful in implementing its activities. Since it inception in 1999, CAGOS has been able to work with a group of Matatu drivers and touts in Nairobi where HIV/AIDS and substance abuse information was given. This workshop enable participants organize other workshops and reached out to those who were not able to attend the first workshops. CAGOS has also worked with youth in colleges and schools where they created awareness on HIV /AIDS and drugs and substance abuse to students. As a result more than 1000 young people have been reached. CAGOS has also had an opportunity to work with the old.

Way forward

CAGOS seeks to urgently mobilize resources in order to effectively and efficiently implement its activities at all levels of implementation. It will integrate with other adolescents/ youth and aged persons programmes by the government, NGOS, CBOs, religious organizations, Institutions of learning and the private sector. This will be accomplished through advocacy, Networking and collaboration. Being a non-profitable organization we rely on sponsors, Members as well as the general public for support be it technical, financial or in kind of well wishers, stake holders and other sectors
