  Dear friends at AVHY,

‘’Dine to Save a Life’’

I send you warm greetings over the season.
I am writing to you concerning Youth With A Vision and the ‘’Dine to Save a Life’’ fundraiser.
On 1st December 2007 join Youth With A Vision and thousands of individuals from various corners of the world to participate in the ‘’Dine to Save a Life’’ fundraiser.
Before I tell you more about the ‘’Dine to Save a Life fundraiser, I have a secret to share with you. It may be hard to swallow but here it goes!

Did you know that it is possible to stop HIV/AIDS a disease that has caused unimaginable suffering to millions of people and implicated the lives of so many around the world?
Did you know that it is possible to reduce poverty, a situation that has fueled AIDS?

The AIDS scourge is unkind and brutal because it has affected so many children in our area changing the destiny of our society physically, emotional and socially. There is no a single family, race or colour in our region that has not tasted the destruction of AIDS. The ailment has sweep through every village in our region. It has devastated once organized societies and happy marriages. The worsening situation is having a lasting impact on vulnerable young people that need to be addressed in order to enhance their productivity.
The lasting impact of AIDS upon the young people and the generations beyond them
As family bread winners succumb to AIDS, there are has been a major economic decline in the region. When parents get bedridden they don’t work to support their families. The children don’t attend school to brighten their future; instead they have to stay at home to care for their bedridden relatives. Over 2 million children are orphaned by AIDS, and several millions have been affected by the scourge. So many children have been left hopeless and helpless only but to fend on their own. Child headed families are on increase. The AIDS orphans are too at risk of being infected by the disease. They have no an opportunity for education, they have no access to enough nutrition, they have no access to safe drinking water, they have no access to improved sanitation facilities, shelter and bedding. They really don’t have an opportunity to protect themselves from poverty and other preventable diseases. They are often the victims other than agents of any change. They need the most
protection and support in the society but end up with the least. The economically incapacitated children you’re your help in order to escape the AIDS quagmire.

DID YOU KNOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO STOP AIDS?
How can it be done?
We found it hard to believe at first, too. But all is possible and exciting. The remedy is one-shaping the young ones with positive values at an early age to empower them to live by what they learnt during childhood and practice it when they become adults, and the other is, people like you joining Youth With A Vision alongside a community of other change makers, to provide the young people with skills and knowledge that will enable them to navigate the dynamic challenges of their world
Our campaign to stop AIDS and uphold the rights of the disadvantaged young people is just beginning whereas the possibilities are endless if we can work together. This is an opportunity reserved for you to be on the vanguard of a promising dedicated initiative to reverse the advancement of AIDS and poverty among the impoverished young people, and give them a chance to witness a difference in their lives.

Working at the grassroots level, the goal of Youth With A Vision is to break the barriers along the lifelong path of disadvantaged young people in Masaka region of Uganda so that we create for them avenues and opportunities to become productive and usher them as change makers. Raising awareness about the impact of AIDS and plight of impoverished children, and urging concerned individuals to become directly involved through volunteerism and support of our project, can accomplish this goal.

What you can do.
Commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day in style. We need you along side. Dine a meal. Raise $/£/€. Save a life. What will you do?

‘’Dine to Save a Life fundraiser
In commemoration of the World AIDS Day, (1ST December 2007), Youth With A Vision is launching an exciting new fundraiser called ‘Dine to Save a Life today.’ The event is a campaign that will take place on Saturday 1st December 2007 and it invites people from all around the world to participate in what will collectively be one huge dinner party, where something as simple as sharing a meal with friends can help to save a Life. This meal will be special not only because it’s a great chance to entertain and spend time with your friends but also because it’s a chance to discuss HIV/AIDS issues facing the poorest children in our various communities around the world, to pledge to take action, and to fundraise!

We are looking for as many volunteers as possible to help host breakfast, lunch or dinner for their friends, families and colleagues to fundraise for this event. Depending on your talents, the meal can be anything from a toast, crisps and coffee to an elaborate multi course event.

‘’Dine to Save a Life today’’ will join together individuals from various corners of the world to let our governments know that we expect them to uphold their millennium development pledges. It will raise awareness of the status of impoverished young people and will also raise the much needed funds for the thousands of AIDS orphans and affected children that are trapped and dying each day from reversible AIDS and poverty related causes. Community action is the best way to show our governments that we mean business so we need your help. Let’s take action and make a difference among lives now.

We need your help to make this happen. Host a dinner party please. The good news to register as a host is that you don’t have to be the world’s greatest chef to be the world’s greatest host! Anyone can take part so please feel free to register. The prettiness of ‘‘Dine to Save a Life’’ is that your dinner party can be anything from a toast, crisp and coffee to a grand multi course event depending on your talents. However, if you are a magnificent chef then feel free to use this opportunity to show your friends and family just what you can do in the kitchen! If you are not such a great cook then you can still have a lot of fun!

To register as a host and save a life today, send your full contact details now.
Please note: Youth With A Vision complies with the Data Protection Act and will not pass your personal information on to any third party.

When you register as a host we will send you an information packet containing samples of inspiring menus, planning tools and tips on how to promote your event. This information packet will also suggest a variety of ways to incorporate education and awareness into your event. For those of you who would like your meal to generate awareness of HIV/AIDS impact in Uganda then we are happy to help you make these issues a feature of your meal. Please indicate so that we send you more information which you might want to spread on the day of your meal to remind you and your guests how important your role is in fundraising for such a worthy cause.

Several individuals have committed to hosting a breakfast, lunch or dinner for the event and asking their guests to donate ($10 - $30) (£5-£15) (€7 - €22) to our work with the disadvantaged young people. Our goal is to raise $100,000 approximately (£50,000) (€74,000) to prevent the spread of AIDS among the young people and support the education of those children affected by AIDS and poverty in Masaka area of Uganda.

Who has joined already?
UK
So far Angie Belcher our contact has already registered to host her fundraiser on 8th November 2007. She is our main ‘’Dine to Save a Life fundraiser host in the region. If you are in the UK and you want her assistance in this matter please you can reach her at angiebelcher (at) yahoo.com
USA
Stacey Frumm of Educate has joined and already inspired her friend to participate in the event with a breakfast fundraiser.

Why don’t you register now to take part in this historic event of our time?
There is no a single group of people that can achieve all this. However, with the help of precious people like you and civil society organizations like yours, we hope there will be enough intellect, knowledge and power to move this event into real actions, priorities and success. Should I hope you will like to participate or encourage your friends, colleagues and organization to host a meal for 5 to 12 people or more for your dearest and nearest from $10-$30 (equivalent to (£5-£15) (€7-€22), or whatever you can afford to give for our ‘’Dine to Save a Life fundraiser?
Be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With your help we can recruit 350 hosts around the world which will mean 350 lunches and up to $100,000 approximately (£50,000) (€74,000). Every bit of the money that we raise will be used to prevent the spread of AIDS, support and improve the quality of life of the AIDS orphaned and affected children in Masaka region of Uganda. And the benefit is that by accepting to host a party for this fundraiser, you automatically become a member of Youth With A Vision and you will receive regular updates of our work.
Involving Others
We need your help to make ‘’Dine to Save a Life’’ the biggest, most exciting, inclusive and memorable celebration of the AIDS day ever. We want to recruit as many dinner party hosts as possible and you can help us to reach more of the people who will make this happen. If you decide not to host, or simply wish to spread the word, you can still make a huge contribution by distributing the information about Youth With A Vision and the ‘’Dine to Save a Life’’ fundraiser to others. We are asking you to spread the word to your families, friends, colleagues, teams, clubs, local schools, Church and communities to join us in our effort to help children break free from AIDS and poverty. The more people who contribute, the higher the prospects of success and greater change we can make!
More information concerning the Dine to Save a life’’ fundraiser will soon be available on our website. In the meantime please feel free to contact us with all you unanswered questions or comments.

FAQs
What is Youth With A Vision, is it a legitimate organisation?
We are a Christian community based youth organisation registered (Registration Number C.D 2211) and recognised in Uganda by the local CBO Board. We are dedicated to defending and advocating for the rights of the disadvantaged young people so that they map out avenues and opportunities to achieve productive and sustainable livelihoods, and to usher them as agents of positive change within their spheres of influence.
Recognising that our society today is faced by deprivation of basic needs, corruption, violence and conflicts, abuse of office and resources, greed, ineffective leadership and lack of respect for basic human rights, all of which have contributed to prevalence of poverty, hunger and diseases mainly HIV/AIDS within impoverished families and societies….
We consider youth: nurtured and supported into responsible adults at an early stage, as important actors, most active, dynamic, creative, innovative, and accountable, committed to the reconstruction of a participatory civil society to recapture the values and practices that embrace all stakeholders, and ready to pass over such practices to the next generation in search for a just and fair society.
We are a co-operation Circle of the United Religions Initiative (URI) based in USA. We are a YES (Youth Employment Summit) country coalition. We are in partnership with a number of prominent and outstanding local and international organisations including Youth Service America, AW. 60 CHARITABLE TRUST in the UK, World vision Uganda, Kings Foundation UK, Life Ministry Uganda, Free To Charities UK and many more. We were verified, approved and certified by Idealist a global and largest volunteer gateway on the net.
How do I register to host a dinner party?
An online registration form will soon be available on our website. But in the meantime, just email us your full contact details
As a host, do I have to contribute a donation?
The host does not have to contribute money, but if your meal takes a different angle and you wish to donate, it is absolutely fine! However, because we know as a host you are likely to supply the food. So it is only your guests to donate.
What about the costs of actually hosting my Dine to Save a Life event?
We know that hosting a meal, especially a bigger event can incur costs that may not be financially feasible to cover yourself. So we encourage you to reduce the costs of your dinner party by preparing simple meaningful meals. We have also compiled some ways to reduce your hosting costs that will be contained in your information pack that you will receive after registering as a host.
Can I have less than 5 or more than 10 people at my dinner party?
Although we would encourage you to have more people for your party, but depending on your situation and for both the sake of raising money, and for the sake of your event, you can have less than 5 people at your dinner party. Initially we didn’t think that less than 5 people would be much for your party, we had put 5 guests as a minimum. However, if you wish to host a dinner party for more than 10 people then that is great! The more the merrier! We are grateful for any participation in Dine to Save a Life. Whether you have 2 guests, or can find 200, 400 we're grateful for your participation!
What maximum amount of money can each of my guests contribute?
There are no restrictions on that one! The AIDS orphaned and affected children need as much help as you, and we, can offer them. So we welcome any amount of money your guest can offer, let it be higher.
My guests can’t afford or don’t want to pay $30? Can I have them pay less? If your guests can’t afford to pay for a meal we can understand that some of them might be strapped for cash (in most cases the students out there!), it is for this reason that we have settled on $10 USD as a suggested minimum donation amount that will hopefully not inconvenience someone, but will still have a great impact on a child's life. However, you can definitely host an event for less than $10 a head, if you find it more appropriate and calling to throw a successful event. Given the fact that we want to raise as much funds as possible for this cause, we would however, strongly encourage a minimum of $10 person!
What are the rewards / prizes for my efforts?
Very huge one! We are delighted to offer a tour trip for 2 overall best fundraisers, who will travel to Uganda to get the first-hand information on our project and to officiate the announcement of the money raised. They will also have an opportunity to tour some of Uganda’s famous wild life sites and antiquities. They will be announced immediately after the event. For the 50 second placed fundraisers, they will receive a Youth With A Vision ‘’ Dine to Save a Life T-shirt and a cap each to wear and show their communities how determined they are to STOP AIDS and POVERTY.

What next after my dinner party? How do I get the money I raised at my dinner party to Youth With A Vision? Do I get any notification when it arrives? We will be sending you a series of updates concerning the event addressing all the logistical questions, taking you through the entire process and providing information as how to submit the money you have raised and the process the funds will go through after all donations are collected by Youth With A Vision.
Your guests are able to pay either you or directly online to Youth With A Vision. If donating online, you will automatically get a receipt confirming funds have been received. If sending by a wire transfer, you will get a transaction note of which details you will pass over to us to check with our Bank and we will gladly confirm that the money has been credited into our account and received. For Western Union after receiving a transaction note from you, upon receiving the money we will immediately confirm to you that we have received the money.
We will compile a list of all donations made and send copies to all dinner party hosts

How the money raised from ‘Dine to Save a Life’ will be spent At Youth With A Vision we try our best to keep administration costs to a minimum so that we can spend as much money as we can directly on the projects that we are conducting. However, in order for an organisation like ours to run efficiently we inevitably incur some administrative and other costs. Of course the majority of the money that ‘Dine to Save a Life’’ raises will go directly to the work of the AIDS orphaned and affected children.

75% Directly To Project
(This will be spent on the education, training and welfare of the target children, and to provide life skills training to at risk children, and/or leadership training and scholarship funds to youth).

25% Operations (This will include administration, monitoring, community education and fundraising) Unfortunately I cannot participate in this event. Are there other ways I can get involved? At Youth With A Vision we have numerous ways that each individual can contribute. Please feel free to visit our website www.freetocharities.org.uk/ywav to find out the other ways you can get involved.

Please register as a dinner party host to Save a Life now.
Hosting a dinner party will give you a great chance to spend your time with your friends and family. Planning and cooking a meal will help you to show your friends and family how special they are to you. It will also give you a chance to prove to yourself that you can entertain and have fun in the course. It will involve you in the fight against AIDS the greatest young people's enemy ever.

Hoping to hear from you and looking forward to working with you in this cause.

Yours sincerely

John Mugabi
